If Gertrude Augur has 15 buttons on the back of her dress Bernardine Till ought to have more because she lives in the Button house . Emma Sloan is wearing some blue spiral rings . Bill Brown has made sure of his Christmas stocking . Just the other day he married Mrs. Bertha Stocking . It was the romance of two farms that stood side by side , where the grasses and the trees used to whisper to each other over the fence , saying my lady likes your man . And she lived alone and he lived alone in those houses side by side on the quiet grassy side road that runs up the hill by the woods . And they were very lonesome . So one day they said to each other : " Why can't we two be lonesome to- gether ? " After that they went to the minister's house and had Holman pronounce a $ 5 benediction . And this is the story of Brown - Stocking .

Mrs. Anna Flagg the eternal yeast of Pentwater who can always keep things amoving was the mainspring the other day in organizing the Mears Parent Teachers Association . Along with her came Mrs. Avis Sarles to act as her fountain pen and Mrs. Ada Modena to give things a Red Cross flavor . Earl Jona sen says to give your eyes a new pair of glass es for a Christmas present . Say Merry Christmas to

your eyes .

The little tots made some safety - first posters saying " Stop , Look and Listen " , Don't Play In The Street " , etc. Then - could had a sign up : " Don't Be A Jay Walker . " And all the time Jay L. Walker is the name you believe your eyes ? of one our leading citizens ( he leads the singing in all the sings , -except Lansing ) . He is a highly respected farmer and a successful salesman of whitewash brushes for the Ful- ler Brush Company and also ex - superintendent of schools . And why in the world should anyone warn the rising generation against his example and say : " Don't be a Jay Walker . Edward Eatem Allen , the town's professional loafer , president ofthe Mears Whittling Association and general manager of the toothpick factory , discovered a stick of wood in the street near his house Thursday morning and hurried in to get his hand sled to take it in before the owner might chance along and claim his own . If he is careful Edward Eatem Allen ought to be able to get 9,800 slivers out of this stick of wood . Although some folks say all his whittling is quite unnecessary and that he will not need any kind- ling where he is going .
