Newz Archive is a historical newspaper digitization platform that allows users to:
- Browse and search digitized historical newspapers
- Upload and contribute newspaper scans for digitization
- Use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to extract searchable text
- Create and manage personal collections through favorites
- Participate in community discussions about historical content
3. User Accounts
3.1 Registration
To upload content or use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information to keep it accurate.
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
3.3 Account Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms of Service or engage in activities that harm the Service or other users.
4. Content and Intellectual Property
4.1 User-Uploaded Content
By uploading newspaper scans or other content to the Service, you represent and warrant that:
- You own the content or have the necessary rights to upload and share it
- The content does not violate any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
- The content does not violate any laws or regulations
4.2 License Grant
By uploading content, you grant Newz Archive a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, and distribute the content for the purpose of operating and promoting the Service. This license allows us to:
- Process images through OCR technology
- Display content to other users
- Make content searchable and accessible
- Generate derivative works (such as text-to-speech audio)
4.3 Historical and Public Domain Content
Much of the content on Newz Archive consists of historical newspapers that may be in the public domain. However, digitized versions may have additional protections. Users should exercise judgment when using content and consult legal counsel if uncertain about copyright status.
4.4 Copyright Infringement
We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please contact us with detailed information, and we will investigate and take appropriate action.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Upload content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without permission
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service
- Upload viruses, malware, or any other malicious code
- Harvest or collect user information without consent
6. Community Guidelines
Comments and discussions must be respectful and relevant. We reserve the right to moderate, remove, or reject comments that:
- Contain offensive, abusive, or inappropriate language
- Are spam or promotional in nature
- Are off-topic or irrelevant to the content
- Violate any laws or regulations
7. OCR and Data Accuracy
OCR technology is used to extract text from newspaper images. While we strive for accuracy, OCR results may contain errors due to image quality, historical typography, or technical limitations. Content is provided "as is" without warranties of accuracy or completeness. Users should verify critical information against original sources.
8. Third-Party Services
The Service uses third-party services including Google Cloud Vision API and Tesseract OCR for text extraction. Use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEWZ ARCHIVE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES RESULTING FROM:
- Your access to or use of (or inability to access or use) the Service
- Any conduct or content of any third party on the Service
- Any content obtained from the Service
- Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your content
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Newz Archive, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.
