THE DAYS ARE GOING BY

The days are going by , my friend , And time is going on :

The rising sun , the evening lamp ,.

And the day of toil between . And yet I wish that more I did

In the hours that intervene .

The days are going by , my friend .. The race is going on .

I hear the beat of many feet

Upon the great highway .

But oh ! I wish I faster ran ,

And farther in a day !

The days are going by , my friend ,

The song is singing on .

Some notes I hear of music clear

In the song that in me rings ;

And yet I wish my hand would wake

The music of the silent strings .

The days are going by , my friend , And life is going on .

This is the test of life that is best : Not to pause by the highway's side ; For the fairer song and the fuller day Bring the life intensified .

R. T. Morris believes in keeping camphor on hand . He let the wood - pile fall on his hand and that is just the reason he keeps camphor on his hand . The hand looked quite handsome , that is it looked like some hand .

A fierce conflict occurred on the old battle field at Sil- ver Lake this week . A warrior from the east met a warrior from the west and called him a son of a lady dog . Elmer Wyckoff , the good natured secretary of the Hart Fair association , who has become famous through the celebrated dog owner stories , is again in the pub- lic mind . This time it is a cat that is giving him so much notoriety . Elmer had a cat that he did not love . So he carried her down to Williams's . The cat came back . He took the cat up the railroad track . And the cat came back . He took the cat to the farm . But the cat came back . So Elmer hitched up his horse and was going to take the cat a mile east of Hart and leave her there . She was blind - folded and so that she could not see the scenery along the boulevard . When he got as far as Frank Brooker's he looked and the sack and the cat were still there . But when he got as far as High- land's cat and sack had disappeared . That was last May . And now the cat has come back again . Elmer marched her catship out to the farm . Once more she has returned . Oh ! they all come back .

Lee Worth has not gone to Virginia yet because he has not sold his home . Neither has he resigned his mail route . However there are so many to step into his shoes that about the only safe way for him to do is to have his wife hide his shoes in the flour barrel each night after he goes to bed . Otherwise he may wake up some morning and find Alvaro Craig or Will Krause walking around in his shoes . Then Lee would bare to be the barefoot boy .
