  5. Your comment awaits moderator approval

Comment Moderation

Why Moderation?

All comments are moderated to maintain quality discussions and prevent spam. This ensures the community remains helpful and respectful.

Comment States

  • Pending - Awaiting moderator review (default)
  • Approved - Visible to everyone
  • Rejected - Not approved for publication

Approval Timeline

  • Most comments reviewed within 24-48 hours
  • You'll see "Pending approval" status after posting
  • Once approved, comment appears publicly
  • Check back later to see if your comment was approved

Viewing Comments

Reading Comments

  • Comments appear at the bottom of each newspaper issue page
  • Newest comments appear first
  • See commenter name and timestamp
  • Only approved comments are visible to others

Your Comments

  • You can see your own pending comments
  • Others can't see pending comments
  • Track your comment status on the issue page

Deleting Comments

You can delete your own comments:

  • Look for "Delete" button next to your comments
  • Confirm deletion when prompted
  • Deletion is permanent
  • Works for both pending and approved comments

Common Use Cases

Sharing Historical Context

Add background information about events, people, or places mentioned:

"This article mentions the Smith Building on Main Street. That building still stands today and is now the city library. It was constructed in 1885 by local architect John Smith."

Correcting OCR Errors

Point out mistakes in the extracted text:

"The OCR text reads 'Jobn Smith' but the actual text says 'John Smith'. Also 'l920' should be '1920'."

Personal Connections

Share family or personal connections to the content:

"My great-grandfather worked at this factory mentioned in the article. He started there in 1918 and worked until it closed in 1965."

Asking Questions

Seek information or clarification:

"Does anyone know what happened to the building mentioned in this article? Is it still standing?"
