81 The Golden Fair is the big noise in Mears this week . The shining of pumpkins , the plumping of plums , the punking of water- melons , the colored crinkle of crepe paper , the making of parade cos- tumes , the mystery of impersonations go merrily on . Friday is the big day of fancy work and soup , of quilts and quinces , of parsnips and prunes , of turn - ups and turn - downs . We hope you turn up and please don't turn down the girls selling the beautiful home - maid candy.- Miss Ruth Wyckoff went down to Ann Arbor Saturday and made eyes on the campus . - Betty Farmer was married the other day to Orie Keeler in Hart at the Methodist parsonage . Orie is a coast guard at Thunder Bay near Alpena . - Dr . Boynton and the Frasers and W. A. Berger are late lingerers at Little Sable Point . The driver's license of Leon D. Haskins , Shelby barber , has been revoked . He was cently in an accident which was fatal to his wife . The coroner's jury said it was accidental , but seeing he drove past the Hart hospital with her the state police thought his driver's license should be revoked.- Mrs. and Mr. Fred Wilson of Inkster spent a few days with the A. F. Allen family at Smith Corners and explained to their old neighbors that the ink spot in Inkster is getting darker and darker . The Ethio- pian ward is widening . Muriel Allen came home from school to greet them in polished mahonany manners and her older sister , Eileen , told about the election " bust " down at Pentwater high school where they served hot dogs and cold marshmallows on the beach along with soft cider and hard fried cakes . Fern Bowers had a sandy complextion in school the next day . Maybe she stood on her head . Mary's weakness is pepper- mint candy on Thursdays and hot fudge sundaes on Saturday . - Miss Florence Haynor , the Smith Corner's teacher , has attained royalty at last . She has acquired an Earl and I do not know if he was married in a Prince Albert but I'll bet she feeds him hash on Monday and calls it Duke's Mixture . - For sale on easy terms : small house in Shelby , with very small down payment and the balance like rent . Among the brisk and beautiful basket weavers at Harrison's package factory are Luella Woodlanl and George Senecal's daughter . - Miss Dorothy Al- len , the lovely salad carrier at a Hart restaurant , seems to have elop- ed with Frank Barnes , or did she ? -Esther Leslie Hayes and Melvin Hayes of Ludington are rejoicing over the new boy's arrival . - A keg of cider , a bushel of apples and a bushel of popcorn regaled the sur- prise party at Mrs. Al Scofield's for Charles Gruber , the paddle boat man and his wife Lydia , who are soon leaving this autumn paradise for winter quarters . - Miss Eunice Sours is drying apples again this fall like she did forty years ago when she was postmistress of Peach Ridge . While they were all gathered together they had a little shower on Earl Richards , who recently married Florence Haynor . He is going to be Farm Bureau manager for the county now and may have time to fred the cows neither Haynor oats . Won't the Junior Farm Bureau have a great time when they put on their amateur night this winter ? -Say , do you know the Veterans of Foreign Wars is going to have a W. L. S. home talent show and I believe it is the evening of Octo- ber 14 that they will have the preliminary auditions . If that date
